STAR OF THE DAY
Keyuo Craver, one of two defensive backs Milt Stegall beat on his 100-yard touchdown in Edmonton three years ago, was brilliant. He had two interceptions and at least one pass knockdown. Honourable mention to receiver Justin Surrency, who has been stellar.
CATCH OF THE DAY
Craver gets the nod for superb work on his first interception. Receiver Ramonce Taylor appeared to make a catch, but Craver somehow picked Taylor's pocket just as the ball arrived and then strolled 30 yards for a TD.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
TAKING A BREATHER
Anyone born in 1979 or earlier didn't have to practise yesterday afternoon. Head coach Mike Kelly dubbed it "Geezer Guy Day," and he went around the field serving Booster Juice to all 17 players who will be 30 by the end of the year. Poor Gavin Walls was the one closest to missing the cut. He was born on Jan. 29, 1980, so he was in pads.
Two imports were brought in for tryouts yesterday: offensive lineman Andrae Townsel, cut last week by the Roughriders, and linebacker Johnny Baldwin ... Director of player personnel John Murphy said talks with holdout defensive back Lenny Walls continue to improve ... Offensive lineman Ryan Donnelly arrived yesterday. He's on the reserve-retired list after off-season knee surgery ... Murphy expects to do some roster housecleaning this weekend.
After a brief walk-through this morning, the Blue and Gold scrimmage will be held tonight at 6:30 at the Stadium. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.
