Bombers ink kicker

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers officially announced the signing of Canadian placekicker Dan Giancola yesterday.

Giancola, 39, has been out of the CFL since 2004, when he played in three games for the Toronto Argonauts. He has also played for the B.C. Lions and the Montreal Alouettes.

The Bombers also have a pair of import kickers under contract in Alexis Serna and Kenneth Byrd. Serna made 67% of his field-goal attempts last season, going 32-for-48.

Giancola, who has appeared in 42 games, has a career success rate of 72%.

Bombers training camp begins June 7 at Canad Inns Stadium.
