The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have extended the contracts of arguably their most valuable Canadians on offence and defence.

Offensive lineman Brendon LaBatte and defensive tackle Doug Brown recently agreed to contract extensions that were announced this morning.

Bombers head coach Mike Kelly said earlier this off-season that it was imperative for the team to extend the contracts of its best players to avoid losing key free agents like it did last month, when O-linemen Alexandre Gauthier, Dominic Picard and Kyle Koch all signed with other teams.

Brown, 34, said his new contract guarantees that he will finish his career as a Bomber. He is a five-time CFL all-star and was the league's outstanding Canadian in 2001.

LaBatte, 22, is one of the most promising Canadian O-lineman the Bombers have had in years. The 2008 first-round draft pick out of the University of Regina started right out of training camp last season and was responsible for only one or two sacks allowed.
