The Winnipeg Blue Bombers released a quarterback Wednesday afternoon, but it wasn't the guy most people expected to be shown the door.
Head coach Mike Kelly reduced the clutter in the battle for the backup job by giving Timmy Chang his pink slip.
Chang spent the latter half of the 2008 season on the Blue Bombers practice roster after he was released by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Aug. 29.
The University of Hawaii standout was expected to have a chance to compete for a spot on the Blue Bombers roster, but Kelly has decided to go in another direction.
Meanwhile, the future of Kevin Glenn remains cloudy and it's unclear whether Kelly will release the one-time starter or pay him a roster bonus and continue to shop him in a trade.
Stefan LeFors, who was acquired from the Edmonton Eskimos, is expected to be the starter in 2009, while Bryan Randall and Ryan Dinwiddie are also under contract for the upcoming season.
