New kicker in town

The kicking circus is back in town.

Placekicker Warren Kean could be at Blue Bombers practice as soon as today, Winnipeg GM Brendan Taman confirmed yesterday.

Import placekicker Alexis Serna, who unseated Troy Westwood in training camp, is coming off two straight lousy performances. Serna was 1-for-4 in the 39-11 loss to the Montreal Alouettes on Friday.

"It was terrible," Bombers head coach Doug Berry said. "You count on a field goal kicker to bail you out when an offence stutters at the end of a drive or if the defence turns the ball over and we expect some points. When we miss field goals, it's one of the most deflating things that can happen on the football field. For us to miss the ones we're missing right now is certainly not helping the attitude of the guys in this room."

Kean is a former first-round draft pick of the Edmonton Eskimos, who released him when they landed veteran placekicker Noel Prefontaine.

FANS RANT: A number of fans are up in arms after Bombers linebacker Cam Hall took a shot at them on CJOB's post-game show. Hall was not only upset the fans booed the Bombers at halftime but that they cheered when quarterback Kevin Glenn entered the game with seven minutes left.

But other Bombers understood their frustration.

"It's like we changed leagues or something like that from last year, the way we're playing right now," said defensive tackle Doug Brown. "It's just inexcusable here, and people here deserve better."

Almost 28,000 fans showed up to watch a 1-5 club get clobbered.

"I appreciate fans," Berry said. "I'd rather have fans who are against me than to have no fans at all. I'd rather have 27,000 fans sitting in that stadium, hopefully showing pleasure but if they have to show displeasure, I'd much rather have that than have 5,000 people in a big stadium ... I'm really impressed with the Winnipeg fans."

RETURNING: The Bombers expect to get several injured players back this week, including C Dominic Picard, WR Terrence Edwards and SB Milt Stegall.
