Winnipeg's No. 1 gun paid his respects to Toronto's legendary quarterback Damon Allen, who went gently into the good retirement night yesterday.

"You never want to wish anybody out of the league or anything but what a way to go out," Blue Bombers QB Kevin Glenn said. "I mean, he has a bunch of records, he's won Grey Cups, he's won MVPs. What else is there to do for him? He accomplished more by himself than three or four quarterbacks combined accomplish in their lifetime.

"I found out at the Quarterback Challenge (last weekend) and I congratulated him. You never want to see anyone retire from what he loves to do but it's one of those things where he can gracefully bow out and that's what he did."

Glenn, by the way, finished second overall at Allen's QB Challenge for charity in Toronto, winning the sprintout category.

And yes, his broken arm is all better.

"It's 100%, not even an issue. What's the next question?" he asked with a laugh. "It felt good. It's hard to get used to the shoulderpads and everything but it is what it is. It's the first day and it feels 100% and I'm ready to go."

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Those players who gave the best first impressions at yesterday's rookie camp included QB Bryan Randall, LB Dwayne Slay, who made several impressive defensive plays and WRs Dan Sheldon and Kerry Johnson. The only no-show was DB Jovon Johnson, who is expected to be here when camp continues today at 9:15 a.m.

NEW BLOOD: The Bombers signed punter/kicker Brian Monroe, wide receiver Jeff Moore, defensive back Willie Tagoa'i, defensive end Nick McNeil and defensive tackle Josh Miller, all imports, and non-import offensive lineman Andy Hunter on the eve of rookie camp.

They also confirmed the signings of two draftees -- wide receiver Aaron Hargreaves and University of Manitoba defensive lineman Don Oramasionwu.

The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Monroe, who attended the San Diego Chargers training camp last year, will be expected to push Troy Westwood at the main camp, which opens this Sunday.
