TOP OFFENSIVE PLAYER
Winnipeg running back Fred Reid, who replaced the injured Charles Roberts for the second straight match, was a dynamo. Reid rushed for a total of 139 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries as the Blue Bombers beat Montreal 20-17. And that included runs of 43 and 26 yards.
TOP DEFENSIVE PLAYER
Bomber defensive end Gavin Walls was a whirling dervish for the second straight outing. He recorded four defensive tackles, a quarterback sack and had at least four pressures on Montreal quarterback Marcus Brady. Honourable mention to defensive end Stevie Baggs who was nailed for an iffy roughing-the-passer penalty.
TOP SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER
After a rather pedestrian first half, Bomber kick returner Keith Stokes threatened to score on several runbacks, his best being a 56-yard missed field goal return late in the third quarter. Honourable mention to cornerback Robert Bean who blocked a Damon Duval punt.
The Bombers scrimmaged the ball on their own 14, desperately hanging on to a 20-17 lead with 2:54 left. Bomber quarterback Kevin Glenn dropped back and completed a 34-yard pass to running back Fred Reid to get them out of trouble. Three plays later, Winnipeg punted and the punt cover team stopped returner Ashlan Davis at his own three with 42 seconds left.
SMACK OF THE MATCH
Bomber defensive end Gavin Walls bulled his way up the middle of the Montreal offensive line and cleanly laid out Alouettes quarterback Marcus Brady.
