Pivotal decision

Jarious Jackson led B.C. to victory over the Stampeders in Calgary in relief of Buck Pierce on Saturday.

But Winnipeg GM Brendan Taman expressed no regrets on passing up on the third-stringer when the Lions were dangling him last winter.

"He was only three for seven (for 44 yards), although two were for touchdowns," Taman said yesterday. "If he starts against Saskatchewan and wins next week, maybe I'll change my mind about him."

However, Taman does plan to scout quarterbacks at NFL camps early next month, hoping to lure at least one to Winnipeg.

The Blue Bombers got a scare when it looked like QB Kevin Glenn was shaken up after one play during the CFL game against Hamilton on Friday. They have three untried and unproven backups in camp.

"I'm all right," Glenn assured after the match. "That's just the nature of the game. I'm healthy."

BIG DAY: Bomber slotback Milt Stegall set the CFL record for most career touchdowns (139) on Friday and five years ago to the day, he had broken the Bomber TD record (then held by Leo Lewis with 75).

"That's amazing, I guess," Stegall said. "I never realized that. But the fact that they happened five years apart on the same day, I guess five years from now ... what will I be doing then? Will I still be playing? I'm not for sure.

"It wasn't relief. I knew as long as I stayed healthy, I was going to get a chance to score one more touchdown. It was elation. It was excitement.

"Because I'm sure if I'd have been somewhere else there would've been some screaming, but not like these fans were screaming and cheering me on. So, it was definitely an exciting thing."

Stegall will not get a bonus for recording history but QB Kevin Glenn does get bonuses for TD passes, Taman said. The record-breaker had been drawn up as a running play.

SELLOUT III: Bombers enjoyed their third straight sellout, believed to be for the first time since the stadium was expanded during the 1970s.

"That's a good thing," Taman said. "But it's not going to retain my job. My bottom line's wins and losses. But I guess they do go hand-in-hand with winning."

TRIP UP: Bomber MLB Barrin Simpson picked off a Jason Maas pass and appeared to be heading to the endzone when he was tripped up by his own teammate, Corey Jenkins.

"Yeah, I was on Corey about that," Simpson said. "You know, the first time we get to score on defence and he makes the tackle so, I'm going to be on him pretty bad about that. But that was a good momentum-changer and it got us to where we need to be to win the game."

Jenkins said he was attempting to block a would-be tackler.

HASHMARKS: Neither CBs Anthony Malbrough (hamstring) nor Robert Bean (knee) are expected back this week, and DB Davin Bush (groin) remains doubtful. There have been no developments with former Bomber DB Juran Bolden, a recent NFL cut ... LB Dave Lowry (quad) will be further evaluated this week ... B.C. RB Joe Smith (433 yards) took over the rushing lead from Bomber RB Charles Roberts (414) on the weekend.
