HOME TURF: Okay, Robert, it's time for your Q&A. What was your first car?
ROBERT BEAN: It was a Grey 1984 Honda Accord.
HT: What do you drive now?
RB: A Cadillac Escalade. Sittin' on 22's. It's black.
HT: Sittin' on 22s? Does it make me complete lame to admit I don't know what that means?
RB: 22s are rims!
HT: What's your favourite kind of music?
RB: Rap and R&B.
HT: Is there any particular music that's pumping you up right now?
RB: You know, anything with a nice beat.
HT: Morning person or night owl?
RB: Night person. I could sleep in until after 12 every day. But if I have to get up, I can get up!
HT: Do you have any pet peeves?
RB: Pet peeves, pet peeves. It depends on the situation. On the field, I have to know exactly what's going on or I'm not comfortable. I have to know the play, everything. Off the field, I don't like bad drivers. I'm a city driver from Atlanta and Winnipeg is a little slower, driving. You have to relax and take your time. I know that prevents accidents and stuff but sometimes I get a little road rage! But usually, if I see something that ticks me off, I just go the other way so it doesn't bother me.
HT: Do you have any nicknames?
RB: Bean. Bean Dip... (Kevin Glenn shouts from across the room, "STRING BEAN!") Yeah, thanks! String bean. You know, anything that goes with bean. (Kevin Glenn again, "MR. BEAN!") Yes, Mr. Bean.
HT: Who is your best friend in the CFL?
RB: I have a couple of close friends. Jojuan Armour plays for Hamilton. We were roommates when we played for the Bengals in the NFL. That's one of my best buddies. And Barrin Simpson, who I know from college.
HT: Do you have a most embarrassing moment in football?
RB: Nothing in particular. I guess I feel embarrassed when I get beat for a touchdown because everybody's watching you get beat!
HT: Who is the most famous person you've played with?
RB: It would be RB Corey Dillon from Cincinnati. He's with the New England Patriots now.
HT: Do you have any hobbies?
RB: I like to play video games. I like to work out. I like to bowl. And I try to fish whenever I get the chance. Oh! And I'm a new golfer, so I'm working on my golf game.
HT: Favourite movies?
RB: I'm a movie fanatic! I collect DVDs, I have probably about 1,000 movies. So a favourite movie is kind of hard for me. If I think about that, I guess I go to the old, original movies like Coming To America. That's one of my favourites, all time.
HT: What do you like to eat?
RB: I like to eat spaghetti. Hamburgers. Pizza.
HT: What about before a game?
RB: I try not to eat too much grease. Probably pasta.
HT: You've lived here for a bit now. What are your favourite Winnipeg hangouts?
HT: That's it? Only one?
RB: I like Earls, I like a couple of little nightspots I might check out! I like to dance a little, hang out. I love to listen to music. I don't go for anybody else, I like to just go and listen to music and relax.
HT: If you could meet anybody historically, living or dead, who?
RB: One of my favourite football players, Deion Sanders.
HT: What would you want to talk to him about?
RB: Deion, see, I could ask him a couple of things that I'm very interested in. He used to live in Cincinnati and I used to play there. A couple of questions I'd ask him about... just life because he's a preacher now. And I could ask him a million questions about football!
HT: And, finally, do you have any superstitions?
RB: Hats on beds. It's just bad luck to put your hat on a bed. It's something down south. My grandma and my Dad used to say, "Don't ever put your hat on a bed!" You put your hat on a chair or on the floor. Every time I see someone put a hat on the bed, I kinda look at it funny. I wouldn't do that!
HT: So no football superstitions?
RB: Uh-uh. No. You make your own fate.
