Canada gets an earful

Doug Berry had never seen such Tom-foolery before.

Incensed that the CFL officials did not call a Montreal penalty on one play, Blue Bomber defensive end Tom Canada whipped a flag out of a ref's's pocket and threw it to the ground as if calling an infraction. Canada was called for unsportsmanlike conduct at a critical juncture of the fourth quarter.

"I can find the humour in it today," Berry, the Winnipeg head coach, said with a chuckle yesterday.

He didn't Thursday night. Berry yanked Canada off the field and got into his face on the sidelines.

So, what did he say, exactly?

"Don't do that again, Tom. Please," Berry said, pretending to be polite.

"You know, it was surprising to me that he was still smiling when I was talking to him.

"Ya know, sometimes people do things you wish you dared to do."

But Canada, he confirmed, will stay pay for it. Berry will fine him.
