Camping out

STAR OF THE DAY

Slotback Milt Stegall was the cream of the crop in what was likely the final training camp practice of his illustrious career. He burned defensive backs left and right.

CATCH OF THE DAY

Running back Charles Roberts ran a route out to the flat, where he had to leap quickly to his left to snag an incoming pass. Blink also did a great job of keeping his feet in bounds.

HIT OF THE DAY

The players took it easy on each other on the final day of training camp, so we'll give the nod to punter Chris Beckman, who hammered the football through the uprights with a punt while standing on the sidelines at midfield.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

"I didn't really help myself to make them want to keep me around."

-- Quarterback Brad Banks, traded yesterday to the Montreal Alouettes

BATTLE OF THE DAY

KICK RETURNER

Just like the balls that come their way, this campaign is still very much up in the air. Albert Johnson III was playing hurt in last Thursday's pre-season game and didn't show much. Neither did Dominique Dorsey, though, and he was healthy. Defensive back Greg Moss has taken a few turns in practice, as have running backs Antoine Bagwell and Fred Reid. Johnson, the incumbent, would have to be considered the front-runner for both the punt and kickoff return jobs, because Dorsey isn't going to Hamilton for tomorrow night's pre-season finale against the Tiger-Cats. That isn't a good sign for Dorsey. Bagwell isn't going to Hamilton either, so Reid, who returns only kickoffs, looks to have a good opportunity to potentially win a job tomorrow night -- or at least stick around as insurance.
