STAR OF THE DAY

Running back Charles Roberts turned it up a notch as he prepares to make his pre-season debut on Friday in Hamilton. Honourable mentions to quarterback Kevin Glenn and to defensive back Kelly Malveaux.

CATCH OF THE DAY

Linebacker Kyries Hebert stole this honour for the defence. The former safety showed cat-like reflexes on a crossing pattern when he moved his hands from right side of Derick Armstrong, the receiver he was covering, to his left side and picked off the incoming pass.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

"I think it's just a God-given talent I have being around the ball."

-- Linebacker Kyries Hebert, discussing his interception return for a touchdown in Thursday's pre-season game against Hamilton.

BATTLE OF THE DAY

CANADIAN RECEIVER

Head coach Doug Berry is still thinking about starting two Canadians, which means that at least two of these Canuck catchers are doing something right.

Jamie Stoddard, the veteran of the group, is having a solid camp and had an excellent pre-season game against Hamilton last week. Don't expect him to be going anywhere.

That leaves the rest of the group fighting for the second spot -- if there is one. O'Neil Wilson was acquired in a trade with the Montreal Alouettes, but he is out with a calf injury and didn't make a catch in the first pre-season game.

Arjei Franklin, a CFL sophomore, has much more confidence this season and has been showing off his tremendous speed. When he was left off the first-team offence on Saturday he had probably his best practice of camp.

Blair Atkinson has the height and the hands to make a case, while Winnipeg native Adam Eckert is scheduled to be out for two more weeks with a dislocated finger.

This fight will be one to watch in Friday's pre-season finale in Hamilton.
