Day 10 Blue Bombers training camp

STAR OF THE DAY

Cornerback Anthony Malbrough not only picked off a Ryan Dinwiddie toss but stole the ball away from Quentin McCord after the receiver had just caught a pass. Honourable mention to cornerback Jazzmen Williams, who came out of nowhere to intercept a Dinwiddie pass and return it for a touchdown.

CATCH OF DAY

Wide receiver Jamie Stoddard made one of those patented sideline catches while falling out of bounds. Runner-up was Arjei Franklin's leaping grab of a Dinwiddie pass.

QUOTE OF DAY

"I'm well aware of his (Mike Riley's) accomplishments here and hopeful

this football team

will be the next

one (to win

the Grey Cup)."

-- Bombers mentor Doug Berry on the former head coach who led the Bombers to Cup victories in 1988 and '90. Riley, in town to be inducted into the Bombers hall of fame, was in the stands toward the end of yesterday's practice.

BATTLE OF DAY

Defensive ends

Incumbents Tom Canada and Gavin Walls are being challenged by imports Stevie Baggs and Dwan Epps and non-imports Shawn Mayne and Brian Guebert.

"The guys who started last year (Canada and Walls) are right now, at this point, still starters but they are being pushed," said defensive line coach Richard Harris. "We have some good competition in camp this year. Stevie Baggs is coming along really well. We've had Epps, who came over from Saskatchewan, there. And Shawn Mayne is really stepping up. He got injured earlier in camp and he's made some huge strides.

"I feel good with knowing we have so many people that can play ... I just wish I could get (head coach Doug Berry) to let me keep all of them."
