The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have added some potential help on both sides of the ball, signing two receivers and a cornerback.

Tommy Manus and Jeremy Carter, both first-year CFLers, are the players added on offence.

Manus, 25, is a 6-foot-4, 220-pounder who didn't play last year. He was briefly on the practice roster of the NFL's Baltimore Ravens in 2005.

"He's a big guy who can run really well," Bomber GM Brendan Taman said yesterday. "We're going to have to have somebody in here to push some of the older guys."

Carter fits that bill, too.

At 27, he's smaller (5-foot-11) and faster than Manus. He played for Frankfurt in NFL Europe last season, assigned there by the St. Louis Rams.

The signings come as Taman has all but given up on re-signing free agent Kwame Cavil, who was stuck as the No. 4 receiver behind Milt Stegall, Derick Armstrong and Chris Brazzell.

"He wants a different role somewhere," the GM said. "He doesn't want to be an afterthought."

Taman's other move was to bring in cornerback Greg Moss, who, as a rookie, made three interceptions and 51 tackles with the now-defunct Ottawa Renegades in 2005.

The cousin of Washington Redskins receiver Santana Moss, the 24-year-old went to Montreal in the Renegades dispersal draft, but was cut in training camp a year ago.

Former Ottawa coaches Richard Harris and Greg Marshall, now with Winnipeg, are both said to be high on Moss.

Still on the free agent front, Taman says he and linebacker Ike Charlton aren't as far apart on a new deal as they used to be.

"There's some light at the end of that tunnel," he said.

The team is also working on a contract extension with kick returner Albert Johnson III.

Taman also revealed he's had a few inquiries about the availability of defensive tackle Ron Warner, via trade, but added he's not actively trying to move him.

Warner had ruffled feathers when he signed to play in the Arena League. But he's since been released, and said he'll honour his contract.
