The Grinnin' Barrett may soon be patrolling the Winnipeg sidelines.

Former Saskatchewan Roughriders head coach Danny Barrett is in Winnipeg interviewing for the vacant offensive co-ordinator job, Blue Bombers head coach Doug Berry confirmed yesterday.

"I'm trying to get Danny involved," Berry confirmed. "I have a lot of respect for Danny and I offered to bring him here to see the community beyond the hotel room and talk about coaching philosophy. I'm very interested in Danny."

The former CFL quarterback also worked with Winnipeg's Kevin Glenn when both were in Saskatchewan.

"And they had a good relationship," Berry said.

DID NOT RENEW

Saskatchewan did not renew Barrett's contract at the end of last season.

"He has other things he needs to work out but none of them in the CFL," said Berry, who has also contacted several other candidates but prefers one with CFL experience.

Barrett did not return a message left on his cellphone yesterday.

Barrett would replace Mike Gibson, who left unexpectedly and is expected to join the Roughriders as their offensive line coach, which would be a demotion for him.
