Brazzell gets nod over Cavil

If you look solely at production, Doug Berry's latest decision yesterday is somewhat surprising.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers head coach has chosen to go with Chris Brazzell at slotback for tomorrow night's game against the Calgary Stampeders, which means Kwame Cavil is coming off the roster.

Cavil returned from an ankle injury last week and had four catches for 94 yards and a touchdown against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Sunday.

Brazzell, meanwhile, has just three catches for 36 yards in two games since switching from wide receiver to slotback.

Since slotback Milt Stegall will be back in the lineup tomorrow and there is no ratio flexibility, Berry had to pick either Brazzell or Cavil.

"Both guys have been playing very well," Berry said. "We could've picked either one. I just felt like Chris has been here all year, and as much as I like Kwame and appreciate the way he plays, Chris would like to have this game as well.

"It was not an easy decision."

Cavil said he has been a victim of the ratio before, and he realizes a tough decision had to be made.

"He wouldn't do nothing to spite me," Cavil said of Berry. "It's just how it goes."

It doesn't sound as if Stegall, Derick Armstrong, Cavil and Brazzell will be in the same receiving corps any time soon, either.

"Maybe some time next year that could all happen," Berry said, "but the way we're structured right now, we'd have to be playing four again on the O-line, most likely, and I'm not sure that's the direction I want to go right now."
