Call it payback.
Bombers running back Charles Roberts fooled many two weeks ago when he announced on ourbombers.com that he was retiring at the end of the season.
It turned out Blink was just joking around.
So earlier this week head coach Doug Berry decided to pull a little prank of his own on the scatback.
Berry called Roberts into his office on Tuesday morning to tell him that, since the Bombers had clinched a playoff spot, he wasn't going to play him against the Calgary Stampeders this Saturday night.
Now, let's just say that winning a rushing title is near and dear to Roberts' heart. He trails Calgary's Joffrey Reynolds by 58 yards but has a game in hand, so the thought of having to sit out a match wasn't exactly going to go over well.
Berry got the expected reaction from Roberts.
"His eyes opened about this big," Berry said, holding his fingers about five inches apart. "He responded with a very loud, 'No! You can't do that!' I said, 'Are you sure?' "
Berry then let Roberts know he was only kidding.
Berry even had a suggested headline: "Bombers Get Him Back."
