The Sun's Kirk Penton sat down recently with Bombers offensive lineman Eric Wilson to learn a little more about him, including his admiration of Hollywood bad boys, why he and Albert Johnson III are more similar than they think and why his mom cried on one of the best days of his life ...
Favourite Canadian? Nelly Furtado, definitely.
First car? My first car was an '87 Escort that I purchased myself when I was 16. Then one day there was a spider on the window. I punched it, broke the windshield, and that was about it for the car.
You broke the windshield and that was it? I drove it to a stop sign out near my buddy's house, it died, I pushed it in the ditch and left it there. That was my first experience with driving.
Dream car? I would like a 1951 Buick Custom. Chop top. All that.
Sexiest movie star? Eva Longoria or Miss Angelina Jolie. She's well-rounded, if we can say that.
What's your cellphone ring tone? I don't know. I just got a new cellphone. I got the new BlackBerry, but I'm trying to figure it out. I have no idea yet.
Best word to describe you growing up? Maniac.
TV show you're ashamed to say you watch? I don't know. I don't watch a whole lot of TV, man.
Which Bomber has the most style? It's either me or T.C. (Tom Canada).
Which Bomber would you want with you in a bar-room brawl? I'd probably take Tom.
Why's that? We've been in the bar together.
Who would play you in the movies? Oh, hell. Damn! I kind of like Mickey Rourke. I like his style. Or what's his name from The Recruit? Colin Farrell. I like him, too. He likes to have a good time.
Food you won't eat? There's two things that I won't eat in life. It's sea urchin and tripe soup (made from cow stomach).
Most embarrassing moment? I don't get too embarrassed. I don't know, I got nothing.
What do you miss most about college? Probably the friendships and the partying were pretty good. And the championships were awesome. Once you get to the pros it's a lot harder to get those championships. I was lucky enough when I was at Michigan to win three Big 10 (titles) and a national championship. So you miss those victories -- and sororities.
Best day of your life? Probably the day that we won the national championship in 1997. Football-wise, that was awesome. And the day that I told my mom I was going to Michigan. I remember that in high school, after a high school game. She kind of asked me 'What are you thinking?' And I'm like, 'See that jacket over there?' Somebody just happened to have a Michigan jacket on. I was like, 'I think I'm going to go.' She cried and all that good stuff. That was a good moment.
How many pairs of shoes do you own? Oh, man. I've got a shoe fetish.
Does it rival Albert Johnson III, who said he has at least 100 pairs? Oh yeah. I'd probably be close to 100 pairs of shoes easy. Alone, I probably have about 35 pairs at my dad's in Michigan, and I actually built my own shoe rack in my closet. So that alone probably holds 45. Yeah, there's about 100. I've got 20 different pairs of Converse, Chuck Taylors. They sit right by my door. It's funny.
Most famous person in your cellphone directory? Probably Junior Seau or Jerry Wonder, who is Wyclef Jean's cousin. We talk, because when he comes to Hollywood he always calls, and he likes the cigars that we got (Wilson is in the cigar business in Florida). So he always gives us a shout, him and Wyclef: 'Make sure you got the cigars!'
First job? My first job was actually caddying at a golf course. You had to be there about 5 or 6 in the morning. It was first come, first serve.
Website you visit most? I got hooked on that stupid myspace.com for a second. It was ridiculous. I was checking that out. But it's probably just hotmail.com and a lot of tattoo sites.
You don't have a lot of tattoos, though. Just one right now. It's coming, though. I'm hoping to do my whole chest. I don't know. I gotta wait until after the season, so we'll see.
Favourite dog breed? I'm not a dog fan. If I was, I'd have the biggest dog you could get. I hate those little things they call kickballs. Those things just bark and bite your ankles.
Childhood nicknames? I was usually bigger than most of the kids, so Big Dog.
Last movie you saw in a theatre? Jackass 2. It was good.
Favourite thing about the CFL? Probably the football. Football's fun up here. The fun of the game, that's what makes it good up here. You meet a lot of good people up here, and nobody has too big an ego. It's a great game to play up here. You can have fun doing it.
What's in your CD player right now? I was just listening to Andrea Bocelli -- an Italian opera singer -- a lot of house music, and I'd have to say Buckcherry or Linkin Park. A lot of hard rock. Whatever's got a good beat to it, it's in my machine.
Favourite movie of all time? It's either going to be Fight Club or Vanilla Sky.
Last big purchase? Probably my truck, a new Quad Cab F150 with 22s and all that good stuff.
What scares you? Not a whole lot. I don't worry about things that I can't control. But just recently my girl in New York says that bees scare me, because I was trying to get a friggin' bumblebee out of the back of the truck. She's like, 'Just hit the thing and get it out!' But I'm not really worried about a whole lot. If a plane crashes, it crashes. If a boat sinks, it sinks. Just live -- and smoke your cigars.
