Heavyweight battle on tap

CALGARY -- Something's gotta give tonight at McMahon Stadium.

That's because the CFL clash between the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Calgary Stampeders features an interesting matchup: Calgary's league-leading offence versus Winnipeg's league-leading defence.

The Stampeders, with a high-octane offence piloted by tailback Joffrey Reynolds, quarterback Henry Burris and receiver Nik Lewis, are racking up the most rushing and total yards in the eight-team loop.

FEWEST TOTAL YARDS

Meanwhile, the Bomber defence, fielding the likes of linebacker Barrin Simpson, tackle Doug Brown and halfback Anthony Malbrough, are allowing the fewest rushing and total yards the league.

It's sure to be a see-saw battle, but the unit that outperforms the other will likely have a major say in the outcome of tonight's game.

In the bigger picture, the Bombers would do themselves a huge favour if they can pull this one out. Projections have them finishing the season with a 9-9 record -- at best -- and those prognostications include a loss here tonight.

As Brown said earlier this week: "If we can beat these guys, we can beat anybody."

You're right, Mr. Brown. And tonight it will be all up to you and the rest of Winnipeg's defensive dozen if that is going to happen.
