Shawn Gallant, come on down!

You're the next contestant on Who Is Going To Be Winnipeg's Safety?

Not since Tom Europe patrolled the middle of the secondary in 2002 have the Blue Bombers employed a safety who played all 18 games in one season.

Maurice Kelly, you were great. Joe Morgan, we hardly knew ya. Geoff Drover, well, you were a receiver who played safety.

Gallant, the non-import who held the job briefly at the end of last season, will get another crack at the spot tomorrow afternoon when the Bombers tangle with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the third annual Banjo Bowl.

The interesting fact of this is Gallant was moved to linebacker in training camp because they had a plethora of bodies at safety.

"I've started more games at free (safety) in my career than at linebacker, so it'll come back to me," Gallant said. "It's just, first of all, not being able to play defence this year and then switching positions."

Gallant will be taking over for Kyries Hebert, who replaced Ron Ockimey in mid-July. Hebert is moving up to linebacker in an effort to prevent the Roughriders from running roughshod over the Bombers like they did in last week's 39-12 shellacking.

Rookie Ian Logan also got some reps at safety this week, and he too might see some game action there tomorrow.

QUOTABLE: "It's tough to (win) back-to-back. They got theirs at home, and now it's our turn to get ours at home."

-- Bombers head coach Doug Berry, who admits tomorrow's rematch against Saskatchewan is bigger than your average regular-season contest.

LATE HITS: More than 28,000 tickets have been sold for tomorrow's game ... RB Charles Roberts is 49 yards shy of his fifth consecutive 1,000-yard rushing season, which would break his own Winnipeg Football Club record ... DE Gavin Walls, who was in danger of losing his starting spot this week, had a good week of practice and will be back at his normal position tomorrow ... CB Stanford Samuels is unlikely to play this week because of a sore ankle. He would be replaced by Gabriel Fulbright if he can't go ... Coming on the roster for sure are OL Eric Wilson, WR Arjei Franklin, DT Cam Legault and S John Sullivan. Coming off are SB Quentin McCord (knee), LB Donnavan Carter, DE Shawn Mayne and OL Marc Parenteau.
