Fans' derisive chants only sure thing

B.C. sucks!

That customary chant is about the only thing that is certain to happen tonight at Canad Inns Stadium.

Aside from that, it's anyone's guess.

When it's backup vs. backup, it's anyone's ball game.

The Bombers defence, which is one of the best in the league, has downright dominated backup quarterbacks this season, as the Blue and Gold are 3-0 against No. 2 pivots.

On the other side of the ball, the Bombers are 5-2 in games that Kevin Glenn starts and finishes. They are 0-1 with their backups after last week's 26-11 loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Tonight Mike Quinn will be making his first CFL start. Not only that, but he spent the last three weeks on the injured list, so he might have a little tenderness to go along with his rust.

The Lions, meanwhile, don't have the luxury (or the hassle, depending on your view) of having both Dave Dickenson and Casey Printers in the lineup this year. Printers is trying out for the Kansas City Chiefs, which means Buck Pierce starts tonight.

It will be just the second CFL start for Pierce, whose first, coincidentally, came against the Bombers last October.

Can the Bombers defence do enough to help the team overcome the loss of Glenn and star slotback Milt Stegall?

Then again, can the Lions defence do the same to compensate for the loss of Dickenson?

So maybe one thing we do know is tonight's tilt will be a defensive battle.

And, oh yeah, the fans will definitely let it be known that B.C. sucks.
