Them's fighting words!

Now it's getting personal.

Scott Radley of the Hamilton Spectator has responded to the Sun's recent article which had members of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers blasting their city. The Spectator, you'll recall, had an insert before Winnipeg's 29-0 drubbing of the Ticats last week. The two-page spread simply said: "I'd rather be 1-5 than from Winnipeg."

Below are some excerpts of Radley's column. For the entire piece, visit www.thespec.com.

- Expect to see some nasty signs in the crowd at the Tiger-Cats' game against Winnipeg tomorrow night. It seems a fair number of Manitobans didn't agree with our poster last week that said we'd rather be 1-5 -- OK, 1-6 now, but who's counting -- than from Winnipeg.

- Chris Brazzell took some shots at this city -- unlike when he played for the Cats and rarely caught enough passes to take any shots ....

- Anyway, there were so many barbs flying -- even from the mayor -- that you'd think we'd made fun of Westwood's ridiculous '80s-garage-band-meets-emaciated-sumo-wrestler hairdo instead of poking a little fun at our team's bad season.

- But are they right? Is their city that much better? Well, coming from a metropolis bursting with so much creativity that its football team was initially called the Winnipegs, it's questionable, but let's take a look.

Jump in your car here and drive for eight hours and you can hit dozens of major Canadian and American cities. Jump in your car there and drive for eight hours and you can hit dozens of deer.

- We haven't had a National Hockey League team since 1925 when the Tigers left for New York. That's embarrassing, though not quite as humiliating as knowing Winnipeg's coach once needed a forklift to break down the dressing room door because he'd locked himself inside.

OK, enough of that. You'll want to pick up tomorrow's Sun for an insert of our own. Winnipeggers jammed our phone lines and e-mail account with plenty of Ticat bashing. To see which insult was the best -- and who won tickets to the game -- pick up the Sun.
