Deja vu for Blue?

Winnipeg whipped the Tiger-Cats 29-0 in Hamilton last week and overconfidence may be starting to seep in as the Blue Bombers prepare to host the Steeltowners this Friday.

"We're going to mash 'em," said slotback Andre Thurman, interrupting an interview yesterday. "That's the plan. It's going to be a different team and it's going to be a different strategy but our objective's still the same and that's to mash anybody who's in front of us. They've got a different-coloured jersey on so our approach is to do the same and we feel like, why can't it happen the same way it did the first time?

"They'll be tougher but we'll be tougher, too."

SHORT SCARE: SB Milt Stegall rested his sore ribs for a second straight day and Berry got a scare when WR Chris Brazzell was hobbled by back spasms for a very brief spell yesterday.

His first thought? "Where's Shockmain?" Berry responded with a laugh. "I did (get a scare), I went over and talked to the trainer real quick and he'll be fine."

Brazzell did return to practice.

Toronto claimed import WR Shockmain Davis off the Winnipeg practice roster Monday.

Berry, meanwhile, told Stegall to take it easy.

"I told Milt, 'Feel it out. You don't need this practice so if it's still a little tender, don't push it, take another day and we'll see how you go (today)."

HIGH HOPES: Bomber K Troy Westwood keeps in touch with former Bomber P Jon Ryan, who has impressed the Green Bay Packers in the early going.

"We speak fairly regularly and I know he's got high hopes and high expectations," Westwood said. "He's on the first team with the Packers right now and I think he's going to play down there for 10 years. He's a remarkably talented guy and he works as hard as he is talented. His future is just tremendous and I look forward to watching him play football in January."

Westwood, who has now resumed Ryan's punting duties, denied any added incentive for hoping Ryan makes it in the NFL.

"Not at all. If Winnipeg was to get Jon Ryan back, we'd be a better team," he said. "The guy's a phenom and a good friend and if he came back here, I'd be cool with that."

HASHMARKS: B.C. has signed former Bombers receiver Gilles Colon ... OL Dan Goodspeed has returned home for knee surgery but will be back for rehab ... QB Mike Quinn (sternum) will be ready to play next week ... OL Matt Sheridan (groin) is expected to miss the next two games.
