Upon further review ...

KIRK PENTON -- Winnipeg Sun

Troy Westwood has thrown a challenge flag, and his words in the paper have been overturned.

Yesterday's Sun detailed how Westwood, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers placekicker and punter, had declared himself the best punter in the country.

Unfortunately, what he actually said was that he was the best punter in the country when it came to kicking in windy conditions, which are prevalent in the 'Peg.

He was still boasting, but he wasn't bragging that much.

Westwood thinks long and hard before he announces his often controversial declarations in front of the salivating media, but when he gets serious, he is what Jerry Seinfeld would refer to as a "low talker."

Westwood was in the midst of giving a detailed explanation about punting in windy Winnipeg when I thought he said: "I'm better than anyone right now punting in the country."

I should have blinked when he said that, but I didn't.

What he actually said, upon further review of the audio, was: "I'm better than anyone right now punting in the country at it."

Those last two words are little ones, but they make a world of difference. They totally change the message. He was saying there's nobody better in the country at punting in the wind.

I didn't hear "at it" when I was interviewing him, and I didn't hear them when I was transcribing our discussion.

Of course I was able to make them out yesterday morning when Westwood called and kindly asked me to re-listen to the interview.

So consider this an official apology, Mr. Westwood, and, please, keep the quotes coming.
