Westwood chimes in

The only other current player who's been around as long as Stegall is kicker Troy Westwood.

A Blue Bomber since '91, Westwood just missed out on being part of a Cup winner. But he played on the teams that reached the '92 and '93 Grey Cups, when Murphy still had his magic.

And he sees some of Murphy in Berry.

"He's just got that aura about him that all very good head coaches have," Westwood said. "He's got that same type of aura to me that Cal Murphy does, where he was in complete control of the team... and the guys are going to respond very well to that."

Westwood says Berry impressed him from the first day of training camp.

"The speech he gave in addressing the team and expressing his thoughts on what he wanted the team to be, and how he wanted the team to get there, was quite possibly the best speech I've ever heard by a coach," Westwood said. "And every single guy in that room was completely geeked after he gave that speech.

"There were two or three points, specifically, that kind of had everyone sit back in their chair. He expressed himself very clearly and very bluntly... basically, how he wanted us to go about regaining the type of swagger we had in 2000, 2001."

If he does that, Berry will certainly last longer than Daley. Or Reinebold.

But have the Bombers unearthed the next great CFL head coach?

"Coach Berry's going to be here for a long time," Westwood predicted.

Bomber fans certainly hope so.
