The second installment of Winnipeg Blue Bombers rookie camp was held yesterday, and head coach Doug Berry felt the proceedings went much more smoothly than Wednesday's opening session.
Berry gave kudos to CBs Jazzmen Williams, Gabriel Fulbright and Robert Bean, S Ian Logan, RB/WR Henri Childs, DE Stevie Baggs and DB Ike Charlton.
The coach was also impressed with WR Andrae Thurman, a former NFLer who officially signed with the Bombers yesterday and showed off his splendid skills at practice.
"He's legitimate," said Berry.
Quarterbacks Kevin Glenn and Brad Banks also showed up yesterday, joining Mike Quinn and Russ Michna.
Berry said Banks was "OK" for his first day.
NEW BLUE: Dante Booker and Darryl Ray are poised to become the two newest members of the Bombers.
Ray, a non-import receiver, and Booker, an import defensive tackle, are expected to join the club in time for tomorrow's physicals and then hit the field Sunday with 80 or so other players for the first full day of camp on Sunday.
Ray played for the Ottawa Renegades from 2003 to 2005, while Booker was with the B.C. Lions in 2004.
LATE HITS: WR Chad Rempel pulled up lame while running a route yesterday and left with a hamstring injury. Rempel was with the Bombers last year but was eligible to participate in the rookie camp ... Other members of last year's squad taking part this week are LB Joe Tuipala, OLs Ryan Bachman, Tyler Tapp and Marc Parenteau and DBs Charlton and Boyd Barrett ... The rookies and first-year CFLers will have their final two practices this morning. The first one begins at 9 o'clock ... The CFL said yesterday it is still working on Kyries Hebert's waiver claim appeal. The process towards arbitration has begun, but no firm hearing date has been set. Bombers GM Brendan Taman seems resigned to the fact that the chances of Hebert playing for the Bombers this year are slim ... The Bombers have given up on no-show CB Lawrence Richardson and will ink another defensive back.
