Printers in Bombers' future?

So, here's the thing about Casey Printers.

He's going to make a million bucks over three years with the Kansas City Chiefs. That is, of course, if he makes it through one, two or three training camps.

He's going to get his shot at playing in the NFL, and he deserves it. His performance in the CFL the last two years reminded many people of a young Steve McNair or Randall Cunningham, and he looked destined for the NFL from the beginning.

But let's just say things don't work out, as was the case for high-end predecessors Ricky Ray, Dave Dickenson and Henry Burris.

A million bucks over three years wouldn't be that much to pay for a player of Printers' calibre, even for a CFL team. And while he will be obligated to return to the Lions if he gets cut by the Chiefs this year, he has about as much chance of sharing the job there with Disgruntled Dave again as I do.

So come August or September when NFL teams start cutting their rosters, here's hoping the Winnipeg Blue Bombers are ready to knock some socks off.

A trade for the rights and a million bucks might just be what it takes to get them back to the Grey Cup.

LEFT COAST LUNKHEADS: It's a little late, but we meant to take a jab at Vancouver hockey fans for their constant booing of elbow-happy defenceman Jack Johnson and his American teammates during the World Junior Hockey Championship. Aren't these the same fans who have turned their resident Cro-Magnon Todd Bertuzzi into a folk hero? ... Basketball bad boy Ron Artest is chafed about getting left off the roster for the 2008 Olympic team because of his ability to create and attract trouble. Man, dude should call Canada home like Bertuzzi. Apparently, we love those types of guys on our Olympic team ... Did you hear a ski-lift operator from Austria has invented a ski-through toilet right on the hill at a resort in the Alps? Apparently it's designed for kids, but it will sure come in handy the next time Bode Miller is skiing wasted and needs a barf break ... How bad must things be when the Green Bay Packers have to raid the staff of a 3-13 team (San Francisco) to find new coach Mike McCarthy? All we can say is, at least they didn't have to take someone from the Lions ... And how is it that Herman Edwards goes 4-12 with the Jets and gets a $12-million contract from a better team -- the Kansas City Chiefs? Next thing you know, teams will be lining up to woo Matt Millen out of Detroit ... If Marv Levy can return to the Buffalo Bills, how long will it be before the Minnesota Vikings dust off Bud Grant? ... We're off to a rocky start with the new NBC hockey coverage, which starts today. They've hired Pierre Maguire to yell at even more people. Of course, if hockey gets the same ratings as it does on OLN, the only people who will hear him are the ones within a few blocks of the arena.

GUN PLAY: Quarterback Marcus Vick, also known as Ron Mexico's little brother, was fired by his college team and days later was arrested for allegedly pulling a gun on some teenagers in a McDonald's parking lot. What, were they trying to beat him to the job applications? ... We're pretty sure this isn't what the scouts meant when they said Little Vick has a gun for an arm ... Man, times are tough in the world of the NHL salary cap. The New Jersey Devils cut Alexander Mogilny, and the Tampa Bay Lightning dumped Dave Andreychuk, and both teams are trying to replace their stars with that practice-crasher from Montreal. Hey, he works cheap.
