Field time will improve Jones' season

It has been an extra long and frustrating season for Jermese Jones.

The import Winnipeg offensive lineman has not been able to get back into the lineup since he suffered a broken hand early in the year. So, he has been forced to watch the Blue Bombers struggle mightily from the practice roster since his hand healed.

Because import OL John Feugill is out for the year, Jones will finally return action when the Bombers (4-10) play the first-place B.C. Lions (11-2) at Canad Inns Stadium on Monday, head coach Jim Daley indicated.

"It's been very frustrating with the hand injury, then after I was healed up, not being able to get back on the field," Jones said. "But I guess they have their reasons for doing what they do.

"I haven't been on the field for 12 weeks now and I'm real anxious to get back there. I don't really show it but there's a lot building up inside of me, more than a lot of people know."

Jones also had to deal with losing one of his best friends and a former roommate to leukemia earlier this year. In fact, some wondered if he would even return after attending the funeral. And Jones admitted that he has done a lot of soul-searching.

"It's been real crazy for me this year, probably the craziest it's been for me since I've been up here in the CFL," he said. "Lot of things I've been questioning or I don't understand why (I'm not playing).

"I ask them (coaches) questions from time to time but I try not to give them any grief. That's just the kind of person I am."

COME ONE, COME ALL: The Bombers are inviting fans to attend their open house tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Stadium.

There will be an autograph session featuring some of the Bombers all-time team, which includes Ken Ploen, James Murphy, Gerry James, Chris Walby, Bob Cameron, Willard Reaves, Milt Stegall and Charles Roberts.

Hot chocolate, coffee, 75th anniversary cake and posters will be available for free, and the KidZone area will also be set up.

LATE HITS: The Bomber roster for Monday's game is still way up in the air. Three changes for sure are S Ryan Folk for the traded S Wes Lysack, DB Santino Hall for DB Syniker Taylor, who's in Mississippi helping his mom deal with hurricane damage, and Jones for Feugill. DT Doug Brown's chances of playing are 50-50 thanks to a right foot injury, while there's a very good chance that new WR Scott Robinson will make his Bomber debut as the fifth receiver. Daley wants LB Lamar McGriggs back in the lineup, but neither WR Gilles Colon (quadriceps) or new DB Anthony Malbrough (hamstring) will play ... The 93rd annual Grey Cup game, which will take place Nov. 27 at B.C. Place in Vancouver, will be a sellout, as fans have already scooped up 59,157 tickets ... It's still unknown who will play quarterback for the Lions, but it looks like Buck Pierce will get his first CFL start with Dave Dickenson suffering from a concussion.
