Voters should look beyond QBs

Charles Roberts doesn't want the Football Reporters of Canada to forget about him this year.

The Blue Bombers running back has been the team's nominee for Most Outstanding Player the past two seasons, but he has never been the West Division's representative.

He lost out to two impressive B.C. Lions quarterbacks -- Dave Dickenson and Casey Printers -- both of whom went on to win the league-wide MOP honour.

"That's understandable because this league is a passing league, and generally it's a quarterback division," Roberts said. "In this league quarterbacks are going to throw for 5,000 or 6,000 yards."

Roberts, however, wants the voters to chew on something should he get the nod once again this season.

"If I was voting, I'd take into account that six of the nine quarterbacks in this league probably are going to throw for 4,500 yards a year," he said. "But how many of the nine running backs are going to rush for 1,500?"

In answer to his question, six quarterbacks are on target to surpass 4,500 passing yards this season, while no running backs are on pace to clear 1,500 rushing yards.

At his current clip, Roberts would amass 1,462 yards.
