OTTAWA -- Veteran linebacker Lamar McGriggs is actually sorry to see David Asper go as a board member of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Asper resigned just days after confronting several members of the CFL club following Winnipeg's 19-17 loss to Saskatchewan last Saturday. One of those was reportedly McGriggs.
"A lot of people misunderstand the situation, he wasn't yelling at me," McGriggs said yesterday. "He respects me just as much as I respect him and he was just expressing his opinion and that was it. That other stuff that a reporter said he saw him going crazy on me, I don't know where that came from. It wasn't like that.
"He was just saying, 'What's wrong? What's wrong with this team?' And I totally understand his frustration because I was frustrated, too. It wasn't that he was belittling me or anything like that.
"(But) he can get a little hysterical behind our bench sometimes."
In fact, McGriggs -- who did not define those "other elements" -- was attempting to chill Asper out.
"I was trying to calm him down, then all hell broke loose," McGriggs said, referring to Asper's confrontations with head coach Jim Daley and president/CEO Lyle Bauer.
"I feel sorry for the guy," said McGriggs, adding that Asper would often host player parties. "We lost a great guy on our board."
QB RUMOURS: When Ottawa QB Kerry Joseph woke up this morning, there was a report that the Renegades had added yet another QB, Ryan Leaf, to their neg list. The Renegades previously added QB Tim Couch and have been pursuing Jessie Palmer.
"I could care less, that's the bottom line," Joseph said.
CH-CHANGES: CB Crance Clemons, LB Robert Grant, SB Pat Woodcock and DB Donnie Ruiz return to the Ottawa lineup replacing CB Bo Rogers, DE Anthony Collier, LB Martin Gagnon and P Mark Irvin ... CB Omar Evans and S Shawn Gallant return for Winnipeg, replacing DB Santino Hall ((knee) and WR Chad Rempel (eye). RB Graeme Bell has been practising at Rempel's WR spot.
