The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have a big anniversary coming up.
And it's an ugly one.
The last time the Bombers won a road game was on Sept. 5, 2004, when they beat the Saskatchewan Roughriders 17-4 in the 38th Labour Day Classic.
Winnipeg's next game is the 39th Labour Day Classic in Regina this Sunday -- Sept. 4.
The Bombers are 0-8 on the road since last year's win over the 'Riders. One player said after Friday night's 41-39 road loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats that the Bombers aren't a "road team" yet.
Head coach Jim Daley disagrees.
"I don't think it's 'We can't win on the road.' When you don't play well enough in the first quarter as we didn't (Friday) night on defence, it's hard to win at home or on the road," Daley said.
"It's harder on the road, but I don't think it's something that is special or something we can't do. We will win on the road."
INJURY UPDATE: Bombers OL Matt Sheridan, who it's believed suffered a season-ending tear of the ACL in his left knee on Friday, was having tests done last night. His prognosis will be announced this morning.
X-rays done on SB Darnell McDonald's hand revealed no broken bones, but it was still swollen yesterday.
"He should be fine, unless he can't catch the ball with it," Daley said.
DT Doug Brown's injured foot is getting better, but Daley said they'll have to wait until the team returns to practice tomorrow to get a better idea of whether or not he'll play Sunday against Saskatchewan.
DELAYED BY HURRICANE
SB/KR Keith Stokes has returned to Winnipeg from Alabama after being delayed a day by Hurricane Katrina. His shoulder is fine and his mom, who suffered a heart attack last weekend, is out of the hospital.
LATE HITS: Bombers QB Kevin Glenn still has the third-best efficiency rating (100.6) among CFL starters. Glenn and B.C.'s Dave Dickenson are tied for third with 14 touchdown passes, even though Glenn has missed three games and most of a fourth ... Saskatchewan QB Nealon Greene's rating is 74.3, the second-worst mark among starters ... Daley was very impressed with LB Ron Ockimey's play on special teams Friday night ... TSN will broadcast next Monday's Labour Day game between Toronto and Hamilton instead of CBC.
