Game notes

TOP OFFENSIVE PLAYER

You have got to hand it to the supposedly aging Toronto quarterback Damon Allen. Like a kid on a sandlot, the grampa kept finding too many holes in the Winnipeg defence. Allen completed 20 of 24 passes for 371 yards and one touchdown before leaving the game with an ankle injury late in the third quarter.

TOP DEFENSIVE PLAYER

Bomber linebacker Sean Woodson was all over the field. He recorded nine defensive tackles and a quarterback sack but was still kicking himself for the tackles he missed. Honourable mention to defensive back Stanford Samuels, who recovered a key fumble and chased down Robert Baker to make a touchdown-saving tackle.

TOP SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER

Bomber punter Jon Ryan clearly out-kicked his counterpart, Noel Prefontaine. Ryan averaged almost 54 yards a punt and often got his kicks out of bounds, away from the returner.

SMACK OF THE GAME

Argo linebacker Mike O'Shea lowered the boom on Milt Stegall after the veteran Winnipeg slotback made a grab over the middle. Stegall did hang on to the ball but failed to get a first down.

KEY PLAY

Toronto quarterback Michael Bishop, who relieved an injured Allen, completed a nine-yard touchdown pass to slotback R. Jay Soward, who was wide open in the end zone to give the Argos an insurmountable 34-20 lead with less than five minutes left in the game.

HIGHLIGHT REEL

Bomber quarterback Kevin Glenn completed a 61-yard pass to wide receiver Kamau Peterson. Toronto defensive back Clifford Ivory caught Peterson from behind to save a touchdown.
