Mudge trade was a surprise

John Feugill was quite surprised to hear Sunday that Dave Mudge had been traded to the Montreal Alouettes.

Feugill is the man who replaced Mudge at right tackle for last Thursday's game against Calgary.

"I don't really know how much I affected that decision, because I know if I don't go out and play well this week, I probably won't have a job on Saturday," Feugill said.

"I honestly didn't think that I played that well against Calgary. I wasn't too happy with my performance. Hopefully things will get better this week."

IMPROVED PLAY

Bombers head coach Jim Daley said Feugill and new left tackle Dan Goodspeed did a good job in the 21-15 loss to the Stampeders.

"We were happy with the improved play of our O-line," Daley said. "The tackles were a big factor of it. Dave (Mudge) at left guard was a big factor of it."

GOING HOME: Another surprised Bomber in the wake of the Mudge trade was OL Matt Sheridan, who is moving from centre to his usual position of left guard in favour of newly acquired Aaron Fiacconi.

"I'll admit, I hardly conceived of the day where I would be in the Winnipeg Blue Bomber locker-room and not see Dave Mudge here," said Sheridan, who is the only starter remaining from last year's O-line.

Sheridan was quite self-deprecating when asked about his move away from the middle of the O-line.

"Aaron's going to get a shot at centre," Sheridan said. "Let's be honest: The last couple weeks the guy in that position hasn't been exactly stellar.

"... Right now I guess they feel that I'm a little more comfortable at guard, so we'll give that a shot."

NEW FEELING: Fiacconi apparently didn't have the friendliest of relationships with his coach in Montreal.

"Getting a call from your head coach after you've been traded to his team, that was flattering enough," Fiacconi said of hearing from Daley. "Being in Montreal, I never really had too much interaction with coach Don Matthews.

"So getting a call from the head coach is actually one of the nicest things that I ever experienced so far in the sport."

LATE HITS: DB Tim Carter, who was demoted last week, has accepted a practice roster assignment ... DB Boyd Barrett didn't practise yesterday due to a neck sprain. He is questionable for Friday's game in Edmonton ... QB Kevin Glenn (ankle) took many snaps at practice yesterday and moved quite well, but Tee Martin remained with the first-team offence. Daley doesn't expect Glenn to be ready for Friday ... KR Keith Stokes (ankle) appeared to be running normally, but DB Justin Coleman (foot) didn't practise much ... WR Gilles Colon has his cast off his broken hand, and he took part in yesterday's practice ... The Bombers have released RB Jarrett Smith ... The Eskimos are favoured by a whopping 20 1/2 points for Friday's game.
