Roberts makes fans a promise

You've heard of players guaranteeing wins before, but how about somebody guaranteeing an entire season?

That's basically what Blue Bomber running back Charles Roberts was doing yesterday, promising the Bombers will turn their season around.

"I can guaran-damn-tee it," Roberts said. "You can quote me on that. If we ain't gonna turn it around, we can go home now."

Roberts wasn't planning a return to California anytime soon, so you know what he's thinking.

An avid golfer, he didn't mind pulling an analogy out of the bag when talking about what the 0-3 Bombers will need to do to make the playoffs.

EIGHT IS ENOUGH

"We gotta win three of the next six on the front nine, and at least five on the back nine," he said. "It's as simple as that."

Eight wins should be enough, Roberts figures, to reach the post-season.

"People are starting to believe we can win if we just do what we're supposed to do," he said. "We could have won that one (against Calgary). It wasn't like the two previous weeks when we probably shouldn't have shown up."

And if the fans are skeptical?

"I'm sure they are," Roberts said. "I would be, too. But we're getting better."

Roberts did his part Thursday, turning in his first 100-yard rushing game of the season.

But he says no one player can turn things around on his own.

"It's up to everybody in this locker-room, vets and rookies," he said.
