Jokers pull one over on Westwood

Troy Westwood's No. 1 priority is kicking footballs.

Close behind, however, is revenge.

Sweet revenge.

The veteran Winnipeg Blue Bombers place-kicker, who's been known to deliver a practical joke or two, got it good last week when he took his car in to Winnipeg Honda to have its windows tinted by Future Tint and Stripe.

"The sales manager at Winnipeg Honda used to be the safety on our team, Jason Dzikowicz, and a good friend of mine, Glen Daman, is the VP for the Dilawri Automotive Group," Westwood began. "So I have a great deal of trust, as I should."

Not quite.

Westwood's adventure began when he went to pick up his car after business hours.

"I get into the car, I step on the brake to put it into drive, and the horn goes. I'm like, 'What the ...?' I do it again, the horn goes. I'm like, 'This is crazy!' So I put it into drive and drive home."

Westwood was hoping to hit a green light at every intersection, but it didn't quite work out that way.

"I'm sitting at the red light at Waverley and Bishop Grandin and the horn's on the whole time," he said. "People are at first mad at me, then they're laughing, and I'm kind of crouching. And then I started laughing.

"I'm too stupid or caught up in the moment to think to put it in neutral, right?"

Then, about a block from home, Westwood had to stop at an intersection where an elderly male jogger was waiting on the corner.

"When I tap my brakes to start slowing down, I honk, and he jumps and flinches and looks at me," he said. "I'm like 'Oh, no.' And then I go to hit the brakes, and now I'm honking full blast at him.

"And I can't roll down my windows because my windows have just been tinted, so I can't communicate with anyone. He starts waving his hands, and I can see he's screaming at me, and I'm trying to show him both my hands aren't on the horn.

"It was a nightmare, but it was a good joke. And then they wouldn't tell me how to undo it until I got all the way back to practice the next day. At 6:30 in the morning it wasn't quite as funny, but it was still relatively comical.

"They Punk'd me. What can I say?"

Revenge, however, will be sweet.

"They have no idea ... of the exponential payback," Westwood said. "It's going to be unthinkable. It's coming full blast at Winnipeg Honda, Jason Dzikowicz and Glen Daman.

"Hell will rain down upon them."
