Lyle Bauer plans to continue his responsibilities as president/CEO of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers while he undergoes treatment for throat cancer.

"As far as the operations of the football club, you know that we started with succession planning well over a year ago, naming Brendan Taman our general manager," Gene Dunn, the club's chairman, said yesterday. "Brendan, along with the help of coach Daley -- who is a very detail-oriented coach -- will continue to run the football operations. (Club director of finance and administration) Jim (Bell) will look after the administration side of the business if Lyle happens to be absent.

"We are anticipating that Lyle will continue to be an active voice in the club until such time as the treatment prevents him from showing up here (office)."

Bauer has been responsible for bringing the club from the brink of bankruptcy to where the Bombers should start realizing profits within the next two years.
