Blue waiting on Blink again

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers embarked on their latest most important week of the CFL season yesterday -- with all-star tailback Charles Roberts AWOL.

Roberts apparently missed a connecting flight after leaving Sacramento, Calif., said club GM Brendan Taman.

"It's just one of those things that happens," Taman said. "Sometimes, things are out of your control. It's not like he slept in and missed his flight (out of Sacramento) or anything. It was the airline's fault."

Fined

Roberts was fined for missing a flight to Regina earlier this year and missed another flight home after a game in Ottawa last season.

He also arrived late for the 2003 training camp because he missed a connecting flight in Minneapolis.

"It gets magnified because of who he is but it was just one of those things," Taman said.

Roberts could still get fined for missing yesterday's practice, though. Taman said he will discuss that possibility with head coach Jim Daley before deciding.

"You never want guys missing practice," Taman said.

Daley said he would talk to Roberts to ensure that his family is OK before deciding on any disciplinary action.

Because Roberts has missed flights before, Daley was asked if he was concerned about it becoming a habit for the star player.

"It won't be a habit with me," he replied. "The focus of this team should not be Charles Roberts and his flight. For our team, our focus should be on our preparation for Edmonton. And any of this distraction is not a healthy thing."
