The three new Blue Bombers just could not get to Winnipeg fast enough.

Bombers head coach Jim Daley contacted Joe Fleming, Wes Lysack and Scott Regimbald shortly after the deal sending quarterback Khari Jones, Randy Bowles and a draft pick was finalized late Saturday.

"When I talked to the three guys at one or two in the morning Sunday, if they could have they would have gotten in a car and driven here (through the night) to be here if they had to if we were practising (Sunday)," Daley said. "They are wired about coming here, are looking forward to it. They're going to come right in and fit in the locker-room, as far as the team chemistry and the character that a team wants, in about five minutes."

All three expressed admiration for Daley, who coached them in Calgary, and they also leave a dismal situation in Calgary behind.

All three, by the way, are expected to start when the Bombers play the Lions in B.C. on Saturday.

"We didn't bring them in to be backups," said Winnipeg GM Brendan Taman.

UNRELATED: Taman, by the way, said the deal had nothing to do with a recent disagreement he had with Jones after the quarterback went golfing despite his shoulder ailment. Taman also said that Calgary quarterback Marcus Crandell was never discussed in trade talks, which is why he said some of the names that had been mentioned in rumours were "laughable," not the rumour itself.

THE MAN: With Jones gone, quarterback Kevin Glenn takes over the reins.

"To say that a team is most represented by a particular player puts too much pressure on that player anyway and probably is not a good description," Daley responded when it was suggested that this is Glenn's team now. "This is going to be a Blue Bomber team. We need good talent, we need good people and we need to focus on performance that allows us to make the improvements we need to make."

HASHMARKS: S Joe Morgan (shoulder) is doubtful to play in B.C. while WR Kamau Peterson (knee) is iffy ... Expect to see CB Markus Howell taking turns on offence this week as insurance ... Before he left town, Jones left notes for a number of Bombers teammates and some employees.
