TORONTO - From defence to offence, from right tackle to guard and back to the outside, it’s been quite the ride for Chris Van Zeyl.

No player is better regarded, no player works harder and no one was worthy of a contract extension more than Van Zeyl, whose deal was made official by the Argonauts on Tuesday.

In Van Zeyl and Jeff Keeping, the team’s starting centre, the Argos have locked up two key pieces along the line of scrimmage, which features some emerging young talent in starting left guard Tyler Holmes and Matt Sewell, the team’s first-year lineman whose future appears limitless.

“One of the best, American, Canadian, it doesn’t matter,’’ said head coach Scott Milanovich of Van Zeyl.

“A great leader. He’s everything you’re looking for in a football player for your locker room.

“Hopefully with his new-found money, he and Keeping can take those guys (fellow O-linemen) out for dinner.”
