TORONTO - As fast as John Chiles can run, as quick as he can get behind opposing defensive backs, nothing has been as fast as his rise in stature.

It began to dawn on Chiles when reminded of the $100 fee he paid to get a look-see at an Argos mini-camp held last off-season at the IMG facility located in Bradenton, Fla.

Chiles stood in line like any other football prospect hoping to make an impression, pining for an opportunity and a shot to play at the pro level.

When he ran a lightning-fast 40, Argos coaches needed to consult with one another to verify the time.

Following a brief gathering, the coaches informed Chiles to take the rest of the afternoon off and report for the next day’s main event when veteran quarterback Ricky Ray would be in attendance.

“I wonder if I can get that $100 back,’’ joked Chiles. “Things can change in a heartbeat. I can remember sitting at home in 2012 trying to get a call, waiting for teams to work me out."
