No one would beat football’s bushes more than Chris Jones, no one is more competitive than him and not many are as equipped to dial up a defensive scheme when a game needs to be won.

But no one is indispensable and the defensive co-ordinator’s departure from the Argonauts will be mitigated if the organization works as hard in the off-season at finding assets as Jones did when Toronto gave him an assistant GM title.

General manager Jim Barker has an eye for talent and there’s no doubt the Argos will be active this off-season.

In losing Jones to the Edmonton Eskimos, who hired him as head coach Wednesday, the Argos lost a key recruiting tool, a tireless worker who would hold free-agent camps in virtually any area in the U.S., with a football field to test players.
