Having a leg up on the opposition takes on a new meaning with Argos kicker Swayze Waters healthy and mentally prepared for Sunday’s East final against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
In a matchup that features two hall-of-fame quarterbacks, big-time playmakers on offence and defensive players capable of turning the game around, one of the biggest keys will be Waters and his booming right leg.
Ironically, it was back in the season opener against the visiting Ticats when Waters hurt his groin on the second-half kickoff, a setback that forced the Argos to place Waters on the nine-game injured list, an injury that led to veteran Noel Prefontaine rejoining the team.
When Waters was cleared to play, he had to overcome a mental hurdle and a mechanical issue.
He’s now completely healed and one reason why the Argos are slight favourites to advance to the Grey Cup in Regina.
“I’m happy to be feeling like this heading into the final,” said Waters.
