Ricky Ray has played on just about every stage the CFL has to offer, against opponents that try to disguise coverage or mix up their defensive schemes.

No game is viewed any differently, no foe ever taken for granted and no sense in looking ahead when the task at hand remains in the present.

But if there is any added dimension to Monday’s return, Ray isn’t about to say anything publicly.

Ray is who he is, which is to say he’s the CFL’s premier passer, because of a demeanour that never changes, a mindset that demands his best at all times.

“I wouldn’t say it’s more important or say I’m looking forward to it more than any other game,’’ he began on Saturday, a day when his status was officially confirmed. “It’s just different circumstances.

“It is my first game back in a while and we’re fighting for first place.”

Ray hasn’t taken a snap in a game since the first quarter of a home loss to Calgary.
