It’s official. Cleyon Laing has arrived.

Just a few months out of Iowa State, the Edmonton native has carved a niche for himself on Toronto’s defensive line.

“He’s a rookie and he has done a tremendous job. He plays inside. He plays outside. He’s assignment sound. He’s a physical presence. He’s everything we’d hoped he would be,” coach Scott Milanovich said on Wednesday.

“We just had to wait for him.”

Laing played in 12 games at Iowa State last season after Toronto selected him in the second round of the 2012 draft.

He recorded 42 tackles and three sacks, then arrived at training camp to compete for a job with a team that resonated back to his earliest memories of the CFL.
