Chris Jones has his work cut out for him — it’s as clear as the CN Tower on a cloudless July night in Toronto.

The Argonauts’ defensive co-ordinator, whether it’s through adjustments or new personnel, has to pull something out of the hat — and soon.

The defending Grey Cup champions fell to 1-2 with a 39-28 loss against the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Thursday night at the Rogers Centre.

Usually a secondary coached by Jones doesn’t get burned often, let alone twice in one game.

But that’s what happened before an announced crowd of 18,211, as receiver Taj Smith had touchdown receptions of 70 yards and 61 yards.

On the 70-yarder, Smith sprinted past Jalil Carter in the third quarter for the Roughriders’ longest play from scrimmage in three games to start the 2013 regular season.

On the 61-yard play in the second quarter, there was blown coverage, as no Argo was in the vicinity of Smith, who could have walked in from the 30-yard line.
