Chad Owens' MMA bout has to worry Argonauts
By KIRK PENTON, QMI Agency

Argos slotback Chad Owens is set to step into the octagon for a charity MMA bout, something Kirk Penton sees as a very bad idea. (Reuters)

Is this a joke?

Do they celebrate April Fools’ Day six days late in Hawaii?

I’m normally one to say ‘To each his own,’ but if I’m Toronto Argonauts general manager Jim Barker I’m kindly asking — or make that begging — Chad Owens to not fight in an amateur mixed martial arts bout next month.

Owens is scheduled to fight on April 6 in his native Hawaii against another fighter making his MMA debut, and naturally it’s raising a lot of eyebrows.

As it should.

The Argos can’t be happy about the league’s reigning most outstanding player stepping into the octagon or wherever it is he will fight, but there’s nothing they can do about it. CFL teams aren’t paying their players millions, so they can’t stop them from doing dangerous acts away from the football field.

What do you think of the name 'RedBlacks' for the new Ottawa CFL franchise?
  It's awful
  Guess it works
Meh, I don't follow the CFL
  Best name yet
