Navy man at home with Boatmen
By BILL LANKHOF, QMI Agency

TORONTO - Wide receiver Tyree Barnes knows a thing or two about missiles and, this summer, he hopes to be catching a few from Toronto quarterback Ricky Ray.

Barnes, who played four seasons at Navy, signed with the Argonauts Thursday after completing 24 months of active military service aboard the USS Gonzalez.

The Argonauts are looking to upgrade their receiving corps. Barnes, 25, caught 20 passes for 400 yards and two TDs his senior season before reporting for active duty with the Navy, where he worked as an electronics warfare officer, dealing with counter-missile activity.

An undrafted free agent, he was signed by New England in the NFL but was among the Patriots’ final cuts last July. This will be his first CFL camp.
