TORONTO - Chad Rempel should be good to go on Friday.
With the Argonauts’ regular-season opener looming on Canada Day in Calgary, there was some concern when the club’s long-snapper came up lame during practice on Monday.
Rempel did not practise on Tuesday, but Boatmen head coach and general manager Jim Barker purposely kept him out.
“He has a strain, but he’s good,” Barker said. “I’m not going to risk him. We need him, and we know he knows everything. We’re optimistic that he should be fine.”
Barker said receiver Mike Bradwell is at least two weeks away from returning from a hamstring injury, but fellow non-import receiver Spencer Watt (ankle) is expected to play against the Stampeders.
Ask Barker about the opener, and you might think you’ve come across a kid on Christmas morning.
“I’m extremely thrilled with this team,” Barker said. “They’re great players, great people, they care about each other. I can’t wait for Friday for everybody to see what this team is about.
“I believe we will take the next step. Have we done it? No. Does everybody still pick us to finish last? Yes. That’s okay. It doesn’t matter to us.”
