Will Argos' Belli sail away?
By TERRY KOSHAN, QMI Agency

Argos lineman Adriano Belli is expected to announce his retirement from the CFL on Wednesday. He's rumoured to have secured a boat for the event, just to make sure everyone's paying attention. (ERIC BOLTE/QMI Agency)

TORONTO - Adriano Belli does nothing by the book.

So why should what unfolds on Wednesday be any different?

Though Belli would not confirm as much, the speculation is high that he will announce his retirement on Wednesday. And from what we have been told, he is going to put an end to his 10-year Canadian Football League career in style. Apparently, there is a boat involved, perhaps a cruise on Lake Ontario, which would make sense for a guy who has spent the past four years with the Boatmen.

Belli has had his share of controversy during his CFL career, but off the field, there aren’t many better ambassadors for the game. The Toronto native loves the league in which he has played for a decade, and his Big Kiss Fund has raised thousands of dollars for Sick Kids Hospital. If he does hang up his cleats, the Argos will have to fill a large void in their locker room.

Belli runs a food business and it takes up enough of his time that he has thought long and hard about retiring from football.

Of course, nothing would surprise us with Belli. He’s outlandish enough to call a news conference to say he is returning for an 11th CFL season. Truth is, though, we doubt that would happen.
