TORONTO - Argonauts fans won’t have to scramble to the Internet when their favourite football team is playing in 2011.
The Boatmen have snared a piece of TSN RADIO 1050, a new station that will hit the airwaves on April 13.
Gone are the days the Argos were bumped to webcast only, which happened often at the Fan 590 thanks to Blue Jays or Raptors games.
It’s an important move for the Argos, who can’t afford to not be on the radio as much as possible. Original pre-game, halftime and post-game shows will be part of the package. In-game production will be simulcast from games on TSN, but there will be catering to a radio audience.
“We’re excited to embark on this journey, allowing our fans access to all of our games on radio,” Argos president Bob Nicholson said. “We have a long history with the leadership at TSN so we know the quality of work they produce.”
The Argos’ contract with TSN RADIO 1050 covers the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
In addition to every game — from pre-season to the East final — being on the radio, the Argos will have a weekly radio show. Such a thing existed at the Fan, but it rarely was on at the same time in consecutive weeks. The weekly show’s schedule has yet to be determined.
